Florida State University has a deep connection to veterans, dating to 1947 when World War II veterans used the GI Bill to attend and helped transform the Florida State College for Women into coeducational Florida State University.
FSU is now a nationally recognized leader in supporting student veterans and fostering a military-friendly community. Through comprehensive services, dedicated resources and facilities, and meaningful relationships that enhance student-veteran retention, graduation, and career-placement rates, Florida State meets or exceeds peer institutions in veteran support and success metrics.
FSU’s commitment extends beyond services and resources to fostering a strong sense of belonging. Through more than 30 annual veteran-centered programs and events, the Veterans Alliance cultivates community, connection, and engagement among military-affiliated students and the broader university population.
The Stamps Veteran Scholars Program (SVSP) at FSU honors the service, leadership, and sacrifice of U.S. military veterans by providing transformative educational opportunities grounded in academic excellence, leadership development, and character.
Funded through a partnership with the Stamps Family Charitable Foundation, the SVSP empowers veterans to pursue their academic goals, engage in research and leadership experiences, and prepare for impactful civilian and professional careers. By alleviating financial barriers, the SVSP enables recipients to fully dedicate themselves to their studies and leadership development.
Stamps Veteran Scholars are individuals of exceptional intellectual curiosity, demonstrated leadership, and a deep commitment to service. These students seek not only to succeed, but to contribute meaningfully to their communities and beyond.
Stamps Veteran Scholars Profile
The SVSP provides five scholars who served in the U.S. Armed Forces with two-year merit scholarships and enrichment support, which Florida State matches dollar-for-dollar. Through this robust financial package, Florida State aims to recruit the best and brightest student veterans from across the nation and foster their development as scholars and leaders.
Eligibility for SVSP merit-based scholarships with enrichment support is limited to students who:
- Are U.S. military veterans
